March auto sales up; highest rate since cash-for-clunkers ci

Detroit Free Press -- The return of warmer weather and big incentives were luring car buyers back into auto dealerships during the first half of March and has put the automotive industry’s recovery back on track, according to two automotive forecasting firms.

For the first half of March, the seasonally adjusted annual sales rate, or SAAR, reached 12.1 million in the U.S., according to J.D. Power and Associates.

In fact, the last time the industry’s annual sales rate topped 12 million without a federal incentive program was in September 2008

... and once again, the ranting-right, with their claims of "socialism" and that government can't do anything right...

... was proven wrong yet again...

It worked. It accomplished what it was designed to accomplish. It greatly reduced the cost to the American taxpayer that would have occurred, had we simply allowed "them to fail", adding another 2.9 million Americans to the ranks of the unemployed.

OMG! So C4C didn't end life on earth as we know it? Millions of cars weren't repossessed because the buyers were stupid? So the Dow, S&P index, NASDAQ aren't all up (when was the last time Dow was over 10,700?) since C4C was instituted? All Auto mechanics are all out of work with no clunkers left to fix? Salvage yards have all gone broke?

Millions of more fuel efficient cars hit the roads, so the demand for gas is rising? The auto industry, in many States, isn't going to build more cars after those record sales? Manufacturers haven't added overtime and aren't calling back employees?

“The program was a dismal failure,” “The program was a dismal failure,” “The program was a dismal failure,”….. when I said that often enough, I startrd to believe it regardless of the facts! Empirical evidence be darned! All the news is slanted. I wanted to be able to sit back and say, “I told you so,”

Only Now I can't! Hmmmmm!

I disagree. All very large countries should have at least one domestic automaker, with two or three being better for competition. I consider heavy manufacturing an important part of infrastructure. I believe they also can be used for military manufacturing during war.

President Obama is no Socialist.

Brian Moore is a Socialist. In fact, he was the Socialist candidate for President in 2008.

The difference will be obvious after reading the Brian Moore site for about five minutes.

I wish I could afford a new car now as I've seen some really sweet deals but alas I don't have the money for a new car now. I'm glad to see sales are improving.

If sales go really well (not likely), they could call it "March Madness", since who has money to burn right now.

It's good that auto sales are improving. Now if the unemployment numbers would only go down because people are getting jobs.

My 96 is showing some aging. So for fun I went down to look at some replacements USED. Three years old. Prices were nuts, you could buy some new one for less. Of course it what I want. After consideration the need side won out over want. I am not going to buy any.

I have neither a regular job, nor the money to replace my 1994 S-10. I'm not going to borrow money just so I can get a vehicle that go 10 miles farther per gallon of gas. And the increased insurance premiums alone would more than offset any potential savings at the pump.

Toyota undoubtedly has problems; exacerbated by not fessing up right away. I could believe that USA automakers and thier lobbyists in DC are fueling the fire to improve their personal sad agenda

There are many Toyota ads on local TV stations in Columbus. It seems that suddenly Toyota has found many people that will swear by their Toyota. I think that Toyota and the government are in bed together and the claims of run away Toyotas are being covered up by the company and the Federal Government. It wouldn’t be the first time our government hid things from the public.

Sales and people getting their tax refunds probably have a lot to do with it.

All based on big incentives because sales have been down for so long they will do anything to get their sales up.
